Recommendation - Visa Angels

Recently I obtained my temporary 2-year visa and cedula with Visa Angels of Cuenca Ecuador. I wholeheartedly recommend Visa Angels as a reputable, professional, and economical resource for obtaining one’s visa, cedula and other services necessary for transitioning to Cuenca. I had the pleasure of working with the owner, Jodie Mansfield, and her associated service contractors Daniela, Sarah and Gio. They provided me with information from the outset that many other providers were not willing to do so and at substantially lower rates than competitors’ quotes I had received. I found their English language skills to be excellent and their desire to provide courteous and prompt service was given on a regular basis. They were patient with me as I asked many questions, and they kept me timely updated with the status of my visa application. I would like to point out that I had had more than one glitch in my visa process because of documents required by government administration which seemed to change almost weekly; Visa Angels handled these unexpected changes professionally, timely and with a smile. I am thankful I chose Visa Angles for the professionalism, their diligence, and their discounted services.

Prior to coming to Cuenca, I had researched various resources available to ex-pats desiring to live in Cuenca.

Recommendation for Visa Angels, passport, visas, cedula facilitator

My wife’s passport and mine were going to expire in a year as were our visas and cedulas. I had heard horror stories of people attempting these renewals by themselves. So, I was dreading it increasingly as the date approached. I had had good luck for years with expats’ advertising, buying, selling and recommendations on GringoPost. A search for “Passport Renewal” in GringoPost yielded a rave review for Visa Angels.

With a quick web search, I found their website and contacted them using their online form. I received a prompt response from a representative named Daniela. I turned the matter(s) over to her, and she went to work. My wife and I are so glad we did. Daniela knew what to do regarding our passport renewals, visas, and cedula renewals. The combined completion time for all three was seven weeks. This time frame can vary though. Even Daniela said that the passport renewals went unusually fast. It all transpired without a snag.

The price for these services was very reasonable. Daniela was experienced, professional and friendly. She provided our transportation to Azogues and accompanied us. Our experience with her and Visa Angels was pleasant and memorable.

Recommendation for Visa Angels, visa assistance

I was recently helped by the amazing team at Visa Angels to get my professional visa. When we encountered some obstacles, they spared no effort in making sure that the process was still successfully completed in time. I stay in Quito but did not even have to travel for the application as they took care of everything for me. I would highly recommend them for their expertise and dedication to their clients.

Recommendation for Visa Angels, Daniela Dunia

My passport recently expired and, once renewed, it was necessary to transfer my Ecuadorian visa from the old number to the new. Due to the frequent changes of government requirements, the not-so-convenient location of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs being in the town of Azogues, and the need to make an appointment in advance, I chose to use the services of Visa Angels to facilitate the process. It was definitely a wise decision. Daniela Dunia proved to be well worth the reasonable fee. She is knowledgeable, up to date on requirements, efficient, punctual and totally professional in every way, not to mention being very personable. I highly recommend her services to anyone who wishes to have a pro guide them through the governmental maze. For me, it was huge relief.

Recommendation for Jodie and Sara, Visa Angels, visa support

Hey! I just want to say a huge thank you to Jodie and Sara at Visa Angels Ecuador.

This is the third country where I’ve done all the paperwork and legal hurdles to get residence, and by far the smoothest! Sara Carcamo was the best visa support person I’ve ever worked with. Responsive, helpful, and caring. I never felt nervous, she always put my mind at ease.

Jodie, the head Visa Angel, was happy to meet in person so I could go through my long list of ridiculous technicalities for visas and she knew it all, and was very transparent about the strengths and weaknesses of the immigration system.

Very reliable, affordable, and fast. From arriving here (with all of my paperwork already procured), it took about 6 weeks to get my professional visa and 2 more weeks to get my Cedula.

Thanks,

Recommendation for Visa Angels, facilitating visas and cedulas

Visa Angels’ charges are quite reasonable. I paid about 1/2 of what other facilitators quoted. Sara Cárcamo, who worked with me, is both efficient and very pleasant to work with. Her English is excellent.

The physical address is by appointment only, as the facilitators are generally out in government offices, etc. Best to make first contact at the email given below.

Recommendation for Visa Angels, visa facilitators

My wife and I have recently had the great pleasure of using Visa Angels to acquire our temporary visas and cedulas. From the time we contacted Visa Angels – while we were still in the States and some year-and-a-half before we arrived in Ecuador – Jodie Mansfield, their director, let us know exactly and precisely what we would need to do and how and when to do it; she left no T uncrossed and no I undotted. In addition, she was always available and responded to our emails almost before we sent them.

We followed Jodie’s instructions to the letter and had absolutely not one problem or glitch in getting our visas and cedulas. Jodie and her associates (Giovanny Vallejo, Sara Carcamo, and Dani Dunia) at Visa Angels could not have been more helpful and expert; it is no exaggeration to say that they worked at helping us get our temporary visas and cedulas as if they were working to get them for a close friend or family member. We joyfully and confidently recommend Visa Angels as the “go-to” group to get the job done in a manner characterized by high professionalism and empathetic understanding. The fact that the overall cost of Visa Angels was significantly less than many other similar services was simply icing on the Cuenca cake.

Recommendation for Visa Angels, all visa, cedula, passport renewal, needs

I have been a fan of Visa Angels since my first visa and cedula. Recently they assisted in giving information that made it possible for me to coordinate a new passport, and a visa transfer. Very helpful, and the prices are soooo reasonable, compared to what attorneys will charge.

Jodie Mansfield also is a travel agent, and right now there is a great deal on the Norwegian Cruise Line to Alaska for next May and June. % off cabin prices, and free air for the second person. If you are interested and we can get a group, then more goodies are offered.

Recommendation for Visa Angels, help securing visas and cedulas

+ on your arrival and with the original documents plus the translations, Visa Angels takes the documents through the legal process. (We were required only to be present to sign for a temporary Power of Attorney, so they had our authorization to represent us at government offices and for the finalization for obtaining the National Identity Card.)

+ Visa Angels also helped us secure the required health insurance so we could obtain the national ID cards (Cedula) and get signed-up for the National Health Insurance (IESS) program. We gave Visa Angels our documents on the 29th of June and completed registration for the National Health program on August 20th.
We were exceptional pleased with the personnel and with the costs to obtain our visas, cedulas, and to be entered into the national medical system.

Recommendation for Jody Mansfield, Visa Angels, all things visas

Jody Mansfield is an expat who was one of the original Visa Angels which was founded years ago to help people through the visa process before, during and after their move to Ecuador. Based in Cuenca, she guided me through the collection and apostlle of all the many necessary documents for my Temporary Visa before my leaving the States. Upon arriving here, she and her Angels, Sara and Geo, completed the visa application, satisfying all the requirements to the various ministries, thus securing me my cedula and visa. Nearly two years later, Jody and her team also facilitated the receipt of my permanent visa and my new Cedula. They are super to work with.

The highest degree of professionalism, integrity and character are what one hopes for when dealing with very important aspects of one’s life.

I highly recommend Visa Angels for all your visa needs or questions.

Visa Angels, visa services

Initially I was going to get paperwork from the States to change my status and change my visa. However, Covid put the skids to that so I decided just to renew my expiring cedula. I won’t go into the involved process in depth.

Jodie suggesed that I work with Gio during this process and I have nothing but compliments for the way my process was handled. There were some hiccups, but this was due to new immigration requirements. Gio was always punctual. When I needed paperwork he sent me a WhatsApp, I obtained the paperwork and forwarded it to him. There were a couple of occasions that they needed resubmitting but he always advised far enough in advance that we met our deadlines.

I have a new visa and cedula thanks to the sterling work that both Jodie and Gio did and I would recommend them very highly.

Just got my permanent visa and renewed (new format with chip) cedula, all thanks to Jodie Mansfield and her assistant, Giovanni Vallejo.

Jodie and her crew are true professionals. They got me my permanent visa and my appointment in Azogues for the cedula order, and Gio drove me out there so that we arrived exactly as the parking garage opened, and we were in and out within an hour while other people, who had to go to the bank to pay their fees, had not yet returned. Gio had paid the fees in advance and had the bank receipt in hand.

Requirements change almost weekly for visa processing requirements, and because Jodie is out in Azogues multiple times each week, she knows exactly what the latest situation is.

Thank you everyone from the Visa Angels Ecuador team

We are so happy to have been voted the Best Visa Assistance for the 5th year in a row. I will be honest, this was a very tough year with pandemic becoming a part of our planning. During the first several months we could submit visa applications online which was challenging, but kept everyone safe then it was the trips back to Azogues. Many changes but we did it and got many, many new first-time visas and those permanent visas for so very many friends. We look forward to 2021 and hoping things will find a “normal” so we can work face to face with our clients again. Keep an eye out for us opening our offices again soon. http://www.visaangelsecuador.com

Recommendation for Visa Angels, primarily assisting expats with visas

Less than a month ago my husband John unexpectedly died in his sleep from a heart attack. It was a tremendous shock. The first thing I did was call on two of his friends from the Cuenca Wayfair Lodge of the Grand Lodge of Ecuador and they came over within minutes to assist. They immediately called the police and Maurice Miranda, my representative at Confiamed health insurance. That same day, we were able to complete an autopsy to establish the cause of death which was necessary since he died at home and perform the cremation.  Confiamed insurance paid for the cremation and transportation without any problem. The second day, his friends assisted me in obtaining the death certificate.

That was just the beginning. The third day, I contacted our lawyer and also had the good sense to email Jodi Mansfield at Visa Angels. I asked both of them if they knew of someone that could help me get the death certificate notarized and complete the process for the US Consulate and Social Security. I was still an emotional wreck and in my state the process seemed daunting, but I was relieved when the lawyer and Jodie from Visa Angels both recommended the same person, Giovanny Vallejo, who incidentally turned out to be an absolute angel. Right away, this young man picked me up and drove me to Azuay to apostille the death certificate. This also turned out to be a multistep process that required appointments and several extra stops but luckily Gio had already established a professional relationship with staff at several of the offices, allowing us to get everything done in one day without prior appointments.

Next, we contacted the US Consulate to ask what else was needed to complete the official death notification so that they could contact Social Security in the US. This process required forms and documents to be returned by email in PDF form which I was able to complete from home. The next week, I mentioned to Gio that all of this happened when I was working on a Confiamed reimbursement for my wrist surgery in October. Once again Gio took the lead, he met me at Santa Ines and we went to all the necessary offices for signatures and to pick up the check from Confiamed. Just another reason I’m so appreciative of him and Jodi Mansfield’s quick and kind response referring me to him.

I would not have been able to get all of this done on my own, Gio was the one keeping everything moving along.  Giovanny Vallejo is a wonderful and professional young man. His English is perfect and he knew how to complete all of the necessary steps in this very complex process. I’m also quite sure that none of this would have gone so smoothly if it wasn’t for Gio’s genuine respectful manner while dealing with all of the people involved.  Thank you Visa Angels.

Recommendation for Visa Angels, visa facilitator

I came to Cuenca in June of 2018 and Jodie Mansfield was my facilitator. Jodie and her Angels got me through the process quickly, and easily. They were clear in communicating the process, they were honest, and their prices were fair. Because they are professionals, they made the process look easy. It is not an easy process. The procedures change on a moment’s notice, the State Department made a mistake in my paperwork and Jodie took it all in stride.

Jodie contacted me at the beginning of this year and told me in May we could submit for my permanent visa. For the permanent visa I worked with Sara Carcamo, a relatively new employee, but she was well trained and totally prepared. Sara told me exactly what documents were needed and made sure that every “i” was dotted and “t” was crossed. Again, the ministry at the last minute made a new request. Sara, like Jodie, just took it in stride and assured me everything would be fine. The package was submitted electronically and within two days I received my permanent resident visa. Professionals make it painless. Without hesitation I can recommend Visa Angels.

Recommendation for Visa Angels- Jodie Mansfield, visa facilitator

Last November while still in the US I reached out to Jodie with Visa Angels after I received a recommendation. She was very helpful in letting me know all the documents that I needed to collect prior to arriving here in February. I dropped off my documents to be translated prior to taking off for a trip to Peru and Argentina with the intentions of applying from my visa upon my return. And as we all know when I rushed back mid-March just before the borders closed to find out visas could not be processed. But even then Jodie was there for me every step of the way even as I tried to cross the border from Peru into Ecuador and was very stressed out. I even had to change mid stream from a retiree visa to an investment visa which she helped me with and I’m happy to say that I received my visa today in the midst of the pandemic with government offices still being closed. I would highly recommend Jodie and Visa Angels if you need help with your documentation to get your visa. They are very professional, thorough, good communication and do things in a timely manner.

Recommendation for Visa Angels, Ecuador, visa assistance and facilitator

My wife and I just received our 2-year temporary residency visas. Jodie Mansfield and her entire staff were wonderful every step of the way. They are professional, knowledgeable, and always responsive. Prior to employing them, they met with us on our initial trip to Cuenca and explained the process, the service they provide, the true cost and many other details. They wanted to make sure we were comfortable with them and that they were a good fit for us. After returning to the United States to prepare for our move to Cuenca, we knew exactly what to do to get all the necessary documents. When we had questions about the documents or anything related to moving to Ecuador, they were promptly answered. Once we arrived back in Cuenca the filing process began immediately. We were apprised of every step and accompanied by either Jodie or an assistant to each government office appointment. Their familiarity with the process and the people involved in it reassured us that we were in good hands. The Visa Angels are also a wealth of information regarding all aspects of life here. We know we made the right decision by choosing the Visa Angels.

The Visa Angel on Your Shoulder

By Donna Stiteler

Four years ago, Jodie Mansfield was applying for a residence visa, intending to move from Rhode Island to Cuenca, Ecuador. She asked the owner of the container shipping company she was working with if he could give her a reference for a lawyer to help her complete her paperwork.

“He told me not to spend $1,000 getting someone to help,” Jodie says. Applying for the visa isn’t difficult, “it’s just a lot of work gathering papers.”

When Jodie successfully completed her paperwork on her own in three weeks, she took her new visa to the container shipping company owner to show him he had been right. He said, “OK, now let’s talk about Visa Angels.”

“What’s a visa angel?” Jodie asked.

“You are,” he replied.

Getting her visa had proved not to be as difficult as Jodie imagined, and she realized she could share her experience with others—to help them through the process. Now that she was retired, she had the time to do it. “I knew that if I could do this, others could. All they needed was some hand-holding,” Jodie says. And so she signed up with Visa Angels, a volunteer organization created as a do-it-yourself visa service to assist expats.

Jodie understands firsthand the importance of getting a visa quickly. In 2013, she decided to check out Cuenca, and by the second day of her exploratory trip she was in love. “I was relieved to find what International Living said about Cuenca was true. It ticked off all the things on my list…weather, cost of living, health insurance, and the beautiful architecture.” After her trip, Jodie started planning for a move to Cuenca in a year-and-a-half, after she retired.

But her plans to move to Cuenca were expedited after she became unemployed. Following surgery, she was placed on disability, and found her job was no longer available when she was ready to return to work. This meant her move to Ecuador was accelerated, with less money to fund it.

Jodie’s experience in finding an inexpensive way to get her visa inspired her to start with Visa Angels in Cuenca. It became her personal mission to help others who needed cost-efficient alternatives. Jodie and eight other volunteers in Cuenca now help expats navigate the paperwork and the application process. Jodie and fellow volunteers Gio, Maria Ines, Abby, Sharon and Scott McNeil, and Ransom and Laurie Nichols are a close-knit team with one goal…to save you money.

Jodie on the day she filed for citizenship. © Jodie Mansfield

The idea of getting a visa without hiring a lawyer or facilitator can seem a Houdini-like feat. But according to Jodie, the process is more systematic than complex. The hand-holding and guidance provided by Visa Angels takes the fear out of completing the process yourself. “The paperwork you have to gather is only good for 180 days, so we help with timing and take expats through the process step-by-step,” says Jodie. “We work with people before they come to Ecuador, because it’s easier to get all the documents you need while you’re in your own country. We check the documents (we have an inexpensive translator), we take you to appointments, and work with you until your visa is in your hands.”

The visa process requires navigating a system that is focused on details. One piece of paperwork not completed to Ecuadorian specifications, and you have to go back for another appointment. “But when you think about it, this is a visa that allows you to live here for the rest of your life, so they should be picky,” says Jodie. “This is not a high-paying job for those issuing visas, but it’s a prestigious one. And if they make a mistake and do not get the legal paperwork right, they could lose their job… Having good relationships with the workers in the office helps avoid mistakes. They respect us. And we respect them.”

Jodie sees the demand for visas growing rapidly as Ecuador and Cuenca continue to attract expats from around the world.

“We actually exchange around 200 to 250 emails with every client to assist them during their visa process… And of course, we don’t ask for any money for this.”

In Cuenca, because of the influx of new people, it can sometimes take months to get an appointment at the ministerial offices to be granted your visa. Because of this, Visa Angels now looks for appointments in other cities in Ecuador that dispense visas within a two-week period.

Visa Angels is currently looking for volunteers willing to be trained to help expats interested in making Ecuador their home. Because the volunteers now have to travel, sometimes for hours, to help complete paperwork, Jodie is working on ways to compensate them for travel and time. “The most expensive visa we have done cost around $300, which is far less than the $1,000 to $1,500 fee from facilitators or lawyers,” she says.

Jodie assists in pet relocations as well, once helping an expat bring four Dobermans into the country. She explains that it’s her pleasure to help expats find their way to Cuenca. “I wanted to volunteer doing something. There are many things to do here, like help the animals, or volunteer at domestic abuse shelters. But I wanted to do something to help expats on their next journey.”

For Jodie, the best moment of all is when clients are finally handed their visa. “That moment when they step outside of the ministerial building holding their visa is just so special. They start crying, and I start crying, and it’s just one of the best moments—that feeling of ‘we did it.'”

Contact Jodie Mansfield and Visa Angels at VisaAngels@gmail.com or visit www.visaangelsecuador.com.

My wife and I went into Azogues today thinking we would get a visa extension but instead we got an earthquake. I had no idea it was happening until some locals jumped up and sprinted for the door. In any case it was an ominous beginning to what was already a nerve wracking day. My wife and I had two issues to work through with our papers and I will tell you right now I do not believe we would have been successful if we were not aided by Jodie and Geo (sp?). They walked us into the meeting, had all of our papers in order and did all of the talking that needed to be done. We would have been lost without them and I seriously don't believe we would have been successful. Rules had changed as of 5 PM last night but we ended up coming out smelling like a rose with their assistance. You can just tell that everyone knows them and respects them when they come in. I told them at least 20 times already today but thank you again, Visa Angels.

PS. Please don't contact us about the rule changes as I don't want to be responsible for explaining a complex situation when I am not the expert. Their email is listed below.

Recommendation for Visa Angels- Jodie, visa assistance

My heartfelt thanks to Jodie and Gio for all their guidance as I obtained my temporary visa. With instructions from Jodie, I was able to take care of all the necessary paperwork while vacationing in the states, and then went with them to Azogues to file for residency. Even with my overactive questioning, Jodie managed to keep me calm, and yesterday I became the proud owner of my new visa.

I wanted to take the challenge of dealing with certified copies and apostilles, and can tell you that the hardest part was waiting for things to arrive. As a reference, I started requesting original copies in mid- April, and got the longest awaited apostille, the FBI report, back in the 3rd week of May. None of the apostilles cost me more than $15. I used a facilitator to obtain my original FBI report, just because I had heard that the timelines were too long for direct dealing. I also used priority mailing for each request.

With Visa Angels, you pay an hourly fee for Jodie to accompany you at filing and receiving, and she gives her advice for free as you move through the process. Gio gets a flat fee for being your chauffeur, and is also knowledgeable about the steps needed. The amount of volunteer time given is amazing, and I loved being an active part of the process.

Thank you both from the bottom of my heart for walking me through this important step in my new life.

Jodie and her driver Giovanni are THE BEST! Recently took a "run for the border" with them due to a complex issue with overstaying a previous T3 and they handled it smoothly. We are now happy campers and highly recommend Visa Angels.

Hooray! I was issued my visa today.

This is the perfect time to give a big shout-out to Jodie Mansfield of Visa Angels. I really would have been lost without her steady and up-to-the-minute monitoring of the changing laws affecting immigration issues.

I first contacted Visa Angels a couple of months before my arrival in Cuenca. Ms. Mansfield emailed me clear and concise information on the required paperwork I needed. On more than a couple occasions I had additional questions, not all visa related, and Jodie generously provided me with the information I needed in a timely fashion, and more importantly, her answers and advice were always based on current Ecuadorian law, never hearsay or interpretation.

“Just the facts”, will do for Jodie.

My case was rather complex. Again, VisaAngels were able to wade through the complexity of my case skillfully and successfully.

Visa Angels was founded as a volunteer based service over three years ago. Jodie’s mission to provide competent advice and give generously of her time to help newcomers deserves our heartiest applause and admiration.

Thank you, Jodie.

We were very close to hiring an attorney to get our Ecuador visas about 1 year ago. While researching attorneys we came across a few recommendations for Visa Angels. I spent some time emailing the attorneys I had recommendations on as well as Visa Angels. The process just sounded pretty straight forward from all the parties I was in contact with, in fact I read a lot from people who did it all themselves. This started making me question the need for an attorney. The fees I was quoted for the two of us ranged from around $1500 to almost $3000 to get our visas through an attorney.

We went with Visa Angels and started the process, I was one of the first ones done after the new laws went into effect and am very happy to say with all the changes and uncertainties it couldn't have gone smoother. Jodie was able to get the needed answers and keep me calm while I was reading all kinds of things from other facilitators that turned out to be incorrect.

If you have money to burn and want to feel important, hire a team of lawyers or hire Jodie and keep your money, either way you will get your visa. The choice is yours, I for one am pretty happy with our decision.

I wanted to express to the community how great of an experience I had with Jodie Mansfield on getting my visa here in Ecuador. My original contact with her was via email when I was still living in the United States. She told me exactly what documents I needed and how to get them. She answered all my questions that I had and was quick in her responses. When I arrived here, she knew all the rules, regulations, and had an effective plan of action for obtaining my visa. Jodie had all my papers translated and at a very low cost. We submitted all my documentation with the government and it was an extremely smooth process because she knew exactly what to do and how to do it in the best way. I recently received my visa and am extremely happy with the whole process and truly enjoyed working with her every step of the way.
